Notwithstanding the opportunity of working (and learning) in a K-12 school in an international setting, living and experiencing another culture&nbsp; is appealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, having not lived overseas and only travelled internationally for short work related activities, my lived experience in this area is relatively thin (it is a daunting prospect choosing a new place to live).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how do you begin to acquire the necessary information? Well, as one does, the extended use of Youtube became my window into a brave new world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My first foray into Dubai was via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AA9qWI7pMFE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strip the City episode<\/a> where an explanation of how the city was built intrigued me. I was fascinated by the sheer scale of the thinking, creativity and engineering feats that I devoured the youtube videos for more information (some of my favourites are listed below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/\/youtu.be\/I-H6b3p_iE0\">Dubai 2014<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/3gQw-8Iu-8k\">2014 Dubai<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/gT9nmXPmTXI\">Future City<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/LxH2A2Zp1KU\">Largest Shopping Mall<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/0BXGh0EYJtE\">The Palm Island<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were many other helpful websites that allowed me to paint a picture of Dubai including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/united-arab-emirates\/dubai\/things-to-do\/top-things-to-do-in-dubai\">Lonely Planet&#8217;s Top <\/a>ten things to do in Dubai<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.definitelydubai.com\/\">Definitely Dubai<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dubaicityinfo.com\/\">The Dubai City Guide<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perusing the internet searching for tidbits highlights the power of personalised learning and the necessity for our schools to pursue opportunities for our learners to use technology.
